Your business

Why Cloudflare

Your domain has a phone book. It says where your website lives, where your email goes and who is allowed to send mail in your name. That phone book is called DNS, and today it probably sits with the company that sold you the domain. We ask every client to keep it at Cloudflare instead. Here is why, what it costs and what changes.

Short version: your domain stays yours, your registrar keeps billing you, your email and website keep working. The phone book moves to a place where we can fix it the same day you ask.

What Cloudflare does for your domain

Cloudflare answers the question โ€œwhere is this domain?โ€ for the whole internet. When your DNS is there, the records that make email work (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and the records that point to your website live in one place, in an account you own.

Two things come with it:

  • DNSSEC in one click, free. DNSSEC signs your DNS answers so nobody can quietly swap them. Cloudflare turns it on with one click and charges nothing for it.
  • Website shielding when you want it. A record on Cloudflare can be set to Proxied (an orange cloud), which puts Cloudflare between the internet and your web host. Email records always stay DNS only (a grey cloud). Our check tells you which is which.

Why we want every client there

  • We can fix things the same day. Once [email protected] is an Administrator on your Cloudflare account, a DNS fix is one request from our side. You never touch a record.
  • Your registrar stops being a lock. With DNS at Cloudflare, the company that sold you the domain is only a renewal bill. If you ever change registrars, nothing live moves.
  • Every domain gets the same check. Your portalโ€™s Domains page scores each domain on SPF, DKIM and DMARC and shows what still needs doing.

What it costs

Price
Cloudflare account, DNS for your domain Free plan, nothing to pay
GUIDE ME: you move it yourself, we check each step Free
Fix it once: we move it for you $199, once
Managed Domain: we run it, every month $25 a month for each domain you send email from, plus the $199 setup. Setup is waived when your domain already scans 10/10.

Managed Domain covers delivery and reputation for the domains you send from. Your other domains, parked or website only, are watched at no extra cost.

Later, if you also move the registration itself to Cloudflare, Cloudflare charges only what the registry charges. No markup, and the domain renews at the registryโ€™s list price. That step is optional and comes after your DNS is already there.

What changes for you

  • Your email keeps working. Your website keeps working.
  • The records are copied across exactly as they are, and checked against a snapshot taken before anything moves. The switch itself happens after hours and the old records stay put for two days.
  • You own the Cloudflare account. We hold a seat in it that you can remove any time.
  • Your registrar keeps billing you for the domain until you choose to move that too.

What we never do

  • We never ask you to edit a DNS record. If you choose GUIDE ME, the portal shows one step at a time and our engine checks each one live. If you would rather hand it over, HELP ME is on every step.
  • Nothing moves until you press the button. Adding your domain to Cloudflare changes nothing for your email or website. Only the nameserver change at your registrar does, and that is the last step.
