What runs on a protected computer
A protected computer looks exactly like it did before. It runs four small programs in the background, and each one has one job.
The four
- The agent. Our connection to the computer. It reports health and lets us fix things without a visit. See Install the support agent.
- The defender. Watches every program that runs and stops ransomware (software that locks your files for money) the moment it starts. A team watches its alerts day and night. See When a threat is found.
- Updates. Keeps Windows, Office and Chrome current, so the holes attackers use get closed. See Updates and restarts.
- Backup. Copies your files every couple of hours. See Restore a file from backup.
What they cannot do
- They do not read your email or open your documents.
- They do not watch your screen. A remote session only starts when you say yes, and you can end it at any moment.
What you may notice
A small icon near the clock. The odd โrestart to finish updatingโ message. That is all.
