Your business
Who hosts your website, and why it matters
Your website is a set of files on a computer. That computer is the host. Someone rents it, holds the login and keeps it running. That someone matters.
Why it matters
- When the host is down, your website is down.
- Whoever holds the hosting login controls the site. If that is a former web designer, your website has a landlord you cannot reach.
- Updates happen on the host. A site never updated gets broken into.
How to find out
- Look at your bills. Hosting is a yearly or monthly charge, often from the same company as your domain.
- Ask whoever built the site for the login, in writing.
- Still stuck? Send us the address and we trace it.
How the domain fits
Your domainโs phone book, called DNS, points visitors to the host. Move the DNS to Cloudflare and the host can change without anything else moving. A Cloudflare record set to Proxied also puts Cloudflare between the internet and your host.
What Managed Hosting does
We host the site, run the updates, keep backups and watch that it stays up. It costs $9 a month for each site.
