Wi-Fi

The wireless signal that connects your phones, laptops and printers to your network and the internet.

Like a radio station broadcast around your office: anyone in range with the right password can tune in.

How it works

  • A router or access point sends the signal and your devices connect to it.
  • Security depends on the password and the encryption setting (WPA2 or WPA3 is the standard to look for).
  • Range drops through walls and floors, so larger offices use several access points.
  • Guests and staff belong on separate Wi-Fi networks.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the firewall, switch and on-premises authentication, along with the access points that broadcast your Wi-Fi, set up with a staff network and a separate guest network.

  • A dental office needs signal in every treatment room and a separate network for the waiting room.
  • A retailer keeps its till on a private Wi-Fi that customers cannot see.
  • A consultancy changes the Wi-Fi password when a contractor's contract ends.

A question owners ask

Is the Wi-Fi password on the router sticker safe to keep? It is unique to that box, which is better than a common default. Change it when staff leave, and change the router's admin password too.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
