CCMP

Counter Mode/CBC-MAC Protocol

The encryption method behind WPA2 Wi-Fi that keeps traffic private and checks it has not been altered.

Like a locked, sealed courier case around every Wi-Fi message.

How it works

  • Based on AES.
  • Replaced the older TKIP.
  • Needs WPA2 or newer on the Wi-Fi.
  • WPA3 uses a related method.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the access points where these settings are chosen.

  • A router offers WPA2 with AES.
  • An old device is limited to a weaker option.
  • An audit checks Wi-Fi encryption.

A question owners ask

Which should I choose?

WPA2 with AES at minimum. WPA3 where all devices support it.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
