CSU

Channel Service Unit

A device that connects a business's digital telephone or data line to the provider's network.

Like the adapter at the wall where the phone company's pipe meets your own plumbing.

How it works

  • Used with leased digital lines such as T1.
  • Often built into the router today.
  • Handles signals and testing.
  • Supplied by the provider in many cases.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the equipment behind the provider's line.

  • An older office has a box near the router.
  • A provider replaces it during an upgrade.
  • A line test runs through it.

A question owners ask

Do I need one?

Only with certain leased lines. Most offices use cable or fibre without it.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
