WIDS

Wireless Intrusion Detection System

A system that watches the Wi-Fi airwaves for rogue access points and unauthorised devices.

Like a guard walking the grounds who spots a car with no permit.

How it works

  • It listens to the radio signals around the office.
  • It flags access points that are not yours.
  • It can spot attackers copying your network name to trick staff.
  • It alerts and leaves the response to a person.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the access points and firewall that define your office Wi-Fi.

  • A new unknown access point appears on a floor.
  • A look-alike Wi-Fi name shows up in the lobby.
  • A report lists devices that tried to join the network.

A question owners ask

Do I need this in a small office?

Rarely as a separate system. A well-set-up Wi-Fi with strong passwords covers most risk.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
