Router

The box that connects your office network to the internet and directs traffic between your devices.

Like a mail room sorting desk: it reads where each parcel is going and sends it to the right desk or out the front door.

How it works

  • It connects your internal network to your internet provider.
  • It hands out internal addresses to your devices.
  • Many small offices use the provider's all-in-one box that combines modem, router and Wi-Fi.
  • It needs updates and a strong admin password like any other computer.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the firewall and switch at the edge of your office, which is where a business-grade setup replaces the provider's all-in-one box.

  • A six-person office uses a provider box and finds out it has not been updated in four years.
  • A clinic replaces its consumer router with a business firewall so staff and guests are kept apart.
  • A shop sets up a separate network for its payment terminal.

A question owners ask

Is the router from my internet provider good enough? For one person it often is. Once you have staff, client data or a server, a business-grade device gives you separate networks, logging and updates you control.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
