RAID

Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks

A way of using several drives together so that one can fail without losing your files.

Like keeping the same document in two separate filing cabinets in the office: if one is damaged, the other still holds it.

How it works

  • Two or more drives work as a group.
  • One common setup mirrors data across drives.
  • Another spreads data and a recovery clue across several.
  • It protects against a drive failure and does not protect against deletion, ransomware or fire.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A seven-person office relied on a two-drive file server as its only protection. Ransomware encrypted the shared folders, and the mirror faithfully copied the damage to the second drive.

How WILDCARD handles it

Unified Backups gives you an independent copy, which a RAID setup alone cannot.

  • A small server uses two mirrored drives.
  • A network storage box keeps working after one drive fails.
  • A firm adds an off-site backup to its RAID server.

A question owners ask

Is RAID a backup?

No. It keeps a drive failure from stopping you, and a backup is what recovers deleted or encrypted files.

Something here sounds like your problem?

Every WILDCARD card exists to solve one named problem. Find yours.
