Business Continuity Planning

A plan that keeps your business running, in some form, through a disaster or long outage.

Like a fire drill for the whole company: everyone knows where to go and what to do before the alarm sounds.

How it works

  • It lists what the business cannot stop doing and what it takes to keep it running.
  • It names who does what, how staff are reached and how customers are told.
  • It covers more than computers: premises, people, suppliers and paper records.
  • It is tested and updated at least once a year.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A six-person firm lost its office to a water leak. The IT was backed up, but nobody had planned for where staff would work or how clients would reach them, and it took a week to resume.

How WILDCARD handles it

A continuity plan is a vCIO output. Unified Backups covers the data side of recovery.

  • A clinic decides which services restart first.
  • A firm lists phone numbers for every staff member and key supplier.
  • An office agrees on a fallback workspace.

A question owners ask

How long should a continuity plan be?

A page or two is enough for a small office, as long as it is kept current and staff know where it is.

  • Fractional CIO on retainer
  • Moonlight, Sunlight, Starlight tiers
  • Credits for single outputs
