MOA

Memorandum of Agreement

A written agreement in which each party commits to specific actions, usually with firmer terms than an MOU.

Like a signed work order: it lists who will do which job and by when.

How it works

  • Spells out each party's duties.
  • Often has dates, costs and measures.
  • Can be legally binding depending on the wording.
  • Common between organisations, schools and agencies.
  • A community group and a business agree on a sponsorship.
  • Two departments set out who supplies which service.
  • A school and a company agree on a work placement.

A question owners ask

How is it different from an MOU?

An MOU shows intent. An MOA sets out specific commitments, so it is usually firmer.
