Microsoft Entra ID

The Microsoft system that holds your staff logins and decides who can sign in to what.

Like the building's security desk and badge system: it checks who you are and which doors your badge opens.

How it works

  • Previously called Azure Active Directory.
  • Stores users, groups and sign-in rules for Microsoft 365.
  • Supports MFA and sign-in policies.
  • Can sign people in to other apps (SSO).

How WILDCARD handles it

Cloud covers workspace administration, including users and sign-in settings. Identity Monitor watches the logins.

  • An owner adds a new hire in one place.
  • A leaver's access is removed everywhere.
  • A rule requires MFA on every sign-in.

A question owners ask

Is Entra ID the same as Active Directory? It is Microsoft's cloud version of the idea. Older offices may still run a server-based one.
