MFD

Multifunction Device

The office machine that prints, scans, copies and often faxes or emails, all in one box.

Like a shared desk with every stationery tool on it: handy, and anyone passing by can reach it.

How it works

  • Connects to the network and often to email and cloud storage.
  • Many keep copies of scanned pages on an internal drive.
  • Default administrator passwords are common and often never changed.
  • Old firmware can contain known flaws.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A busy office never changed the default admin password on its copier. A contractor on guest Wi-Fi opened its settings page and could read the saved scan list.

How WILDCARD handles it

Print Management covers the printers and multifunction devices a business relies on, and Network covers keeping them on the right part of the network.

  • A copier emails a scan to an accounting address.
  • An IT provider changes the default password and turns off unused features.
  • A lease return includes wiping the stored drive.

A question owners ask

Is my copier a security risk?

It can be if it has default passwords or old firmware. Changing the password and updating it costs little.
