DSL

Digital Subscriber Line

Home and office internet delivered over ordinary telephone lines.

Like adding a second lane to the old road that already runs to your door.

How it works

  • Uses the copper phone line in the wall.
  • Speed falls as the distance to the provider's equipment grows.
  • Download is usually faster than upload.
  • Being replaced by fibre in many areas.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the firewall and switches behind the provider's modem.

  • A rural office has DSL as its only option.
  • A shop keeps DSL as a backup beside fibre.
  • A speed test shows a line slower than advertised.

A question owners ask

Can I run a business on it?

Small offices do. Check the real speed at your address and keep a backup line.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
