DLP

Data Loss Prevention

Tools and rules that stop sensitive information, such as client records, from leaving the business by mistake.

Like a guard at the exit who checks bags for company files before anyone leaves.

How it works

  • It scans emails, uploads and shared files for patterns such as card or ID numbers.
  • It can warn, block or encrypt.
  • Microsoft 365 and Google include some versions.
  • It works best with a clear idea of what counts as sensitive.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A staff member at a small clinic attached the wrong spreadsheet to an email. It listed every patient's health card number and went to an outside address.

How WILDCARD handles it

Cloud covers the Microsoft 365 or Google workspace settings that control sharing, which is where these rules live.

  • A firm blocks outside sharing of its client folder.
  • An office warns staff when an email includes a card number.
  • A clinic limits who can download patient lists.

A question owners ask

Is it worth setting up?

For a firm that handles IDs, health or card data, yes. Start with the simplest rules your workspace already offers.
