DEP

Data Execution Prevention

A built-in Windows protection that stops data areas of memory from running programs.

Like a rule that a storage room can hold boxes but nothing in it may be switched on.

How it works

  • Marks some memory as data only.
  • Blocks classic attacks.
  • On by default.
  • Some old programs need exceptions.

How WILDCARD handles it

Patch Management closes known holes, and Workstation Defender blocks zero-day attacks.

  • Windows blocks a program from running code in a data area.
  • An old app is added as an exception.
  • A security guide lists it as a default.

A question owners ask

Do I need to turn it on?

No. Leave it on.

Something here sounds like your problem?
