CERT

Computer Emergency Response Team

A team that handles computer security incidents and shares warnings about new threats.

Like a fire brigade for computers: it responds when something is burning and publishes alerts about what causes fires.

How it works

  • National teams, such as Canada's Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, publish alerts and guidance.
  • Larger companies run their own team for their own incidents.
  • Small businesses rely on a provider and can report incidents to national bodies.
  • A good team keeps a call list, a plan and practised steps.

How WILDCARD handles it

Alerts from Identity Monitor and Workstation Defender are investigated around the clock.

  • A national alert warns of a flaw being used against small businesses.
  • A company report names the team to call after a breach.
  • An insurer asks who responds when ransomware strikes.

A question owners ask

Who do I call during a cyber incident?

Start with your IT provider, who can contain the problem. Then report it to your insurer and, where it applies, to the authorities.

Something here sounds like your problem?

Every WILDCARD card exists to solve one named problem. Find yours.
