DAC

Discretionary Access Control

A way of controlling access in which the owner of a file decides who else may open it.

Like the owner of a house deciding who gets a spare key.

How it works

  • The owner sets permissions.
  • Common in shared folders and cloud drives.
  • Flexible but easy to overshare.
  • Owners can pass on access.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

An employee shared a client folder using a link that anyone could open. Weeks later a search engine found the contents.

How WILDCARD handles it

Cloud covers permissions and sharing settings in your Microsoft 365 or Google workspace.

  • A staff member shares a folder with a colleague.
  • A link allows anyone to view.
  • An audit reviews who can open the finance folder.

A question owners ask

How do I avoid oversharing?

Share with named people instead of anyone with the link, and review sharing each quarter.

Something here sounds like your problem?
