CASB

Cloud Access Security Broker

A service that sits between your staff and cloud apps to see which apps are used and enforce your rules.

Like a checkpoint at the entrance to a shared office tower: it logs who goes where and stops visits to unapproved floors.

How it works

  • It finds cloud apps staff use, including unapproved ones.
  • It can block risky uploads and downloads.
  • It is used by larger organisations.
  • Small offices manage the same risk through approved-app lists.
  • A larger firm finds fifty file-sharing tools in use.
  • A security team blocks personal storage for work data.
  • An office keeps a short list of approved apps instead.

A question owners ask

Is it necessary for a small office?

Rarely. An approved-app list and tenant settings cover most of it.
