Bing Webmaster Tools

Microsoft's free dashboard that shows how your website appears in Bing, and in the Copilot answers built on Bing.

Like the report card from a second school: most parents only read Google's, but this one counts too.

How it works

  • You verify you own the site, then submit your XML Sitemap.
  • It shows which pages Bing has indexed, what people searched to find you, and any errors.
  • Microsoft Copilot looks up its answers in Bing, so a page Bing cannot see is a page Copilot cannot cite.
  • Bing also feeds other search tools, such as DuckDuckGo.

How it relates to IndexNow

Bing Webmaster Tools is where you check how Bing sees your site. IndexNow is how your site tells Bing the moment a page is added or changed. You can set up IndexNow from inside Bing Webmaster Tools.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A physiotherapy clinic only ever checked Google. Bing had been unable to read its new booking pages for months because of a setup error, so Copilot kept answering "how do I book" questions with a competitor's page.

How WILDCARD handles it

Managed Search sets up Bing Webmaster Tools alongside Google Search Console, so both search engines are watched as part of monthly SEO.

  • A shop imports its Google Search Console setup into Bing in a few clicks.
  • A firm sees a page Bing refuses to index and fixes the cause.
  • An accountant finds a set of searches that bring Bing visitors but not Google ones.

A question owners ask

Does anyone still use Bing?

Fewer people than use Google, but Bing powers Copilot answers and several other search tools. Setting it up takes minutes and costs nothing.
