VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol

Phone service that runs over your internet connection instead of a traditional phone line.

Like sending voice notes through the same pipe as your email: the line is shared, and your number works anywhere you have internet.

How it works

  • Calls travel as data over your internet connection.
  • Your number and extension follow you to a desk phone, laptop or mobile app.
  • Call quality depends on the network, so it needs a good router and a clean connection.
  • Adding or moving a person is a settings change.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A six-person law firm paid for four copper lines and a 2009 phone box that only one retired technician knew how to change. When a partner moved to a home office, her extension simply could not follow her.

How WILDCARD handles it

Business Voice is a cloud VoIP / UCaaS phone system. Your number, extensions and voicemail live in the cloud, and Network makes sure the office connection is built to carry voice cleanly.

  • A dental office wants after-hours calls routed to an on-call phone and voicemails emailed to the front desk.
  • A law firm wants every call recorded and transcribed for client files.
  • A contractor wants the shop number to ring his mobile on site and show the business name on caller ID.

Example scenario: A small home-care agency moved from two landlines to VoIP. Coordinators now answer the main number from home, calls to an absent staffer roll to the next person, and a snowstorm that closed the office changed nothing for clients calling in. The monthly phone bill dropped too.

A question owners ask

What happens to my phones if the internet goes down?

The number keeps working in the cloud. Calls can forward to mobiles automatically, and the mobile app keeps working on cellular data. A UPS on the network gear covers short power blips.
