SOC

Security Operations Centre

The team of people who watch security alerts day and night and act on the real ones.

Like the control room of a building's alarm company: screens, people and a procedure for every alarm.

How it works

  • Collects alerts from computers, email, logins and the network.
  • Analysts decide which alerts are real.
  • They contain the problem or call you.
  • Few small businesses can staff one, so they buy it as a service.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A four-person accounting firm's detection tool emailed an alert at 2 a.m. on a Saturday to a mailbox nobody checked until Monday. By then, the attacker had spent the weekend copying client files.

How WILDCARD handles it

Identity Monitor watches every login and session around the clock and shuts down suspicious activity automatically. Workstation Defender is managed EDR. Cyber adds active breach isolation. Together they cover the ground a SOC covers, delivered as a service.

  • A dental office closes at 5 p.m. and needs a response to a 2 a.m. ransomware attempt without staff being awake.
  • A law firm's insurer asks who monitors their security alerts and how fast they respond.
  • A contractor with laptops across job sites wants one team watching all of them.

Example scenario: A small law office's identity monitoring flagged a login from another continent at 4 a.m. on a Sunday. The session was revoked and the password reset before the attacker could set up a forwarding rule. The lawyer found a short note and a new temporary password waiting Monday morning.

A question owners ask

Is a SOC only for big companies?

Running your own is. Sharing one through a managed service is how a five-person firm gets the same night watch without hiring anyone.

Something here sounds like your problem?
