Brute force attack

Guessing passwords over and over, with software, until one works.

Like trying every combination on a padlock: it is slow for one number and fast for a machine that never gets tired.

How it works

  • Software tries thousands of passwords per minute.
  • Common and short passwords fall first.
  • Lockouts, MFA and long passwords stop it.
  • Password spraying tries a few common passwords across many accounts.

How WILDCARD handles it

Identity Monitor watches every login and session and shuts down suspicious activity automatically. Password Manager creates passwords too long to guess.

  • Bots hammer a login page overnight.
  • A guessed password on an exposed remote desktop.
  • Repeated failed sign-ins from another country.

A question owners ask

Is a long password enough? Long and unique helps a lot. Add MFA so a guess alone is never enough.
