RAT

Remote Access Trojan

Hidden software that lets an attacker control your computer from far away.

Like a stranger who has a spare key and a remote control to your office computer.

How it works

  • It arrives through a phishing attachment or a fake download.
  • The attacker can watch the screen, copy files and use the webcam.
  • It often runs quietly for a long time.
  • Behaviour-based protection can spot it.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A bookkeeper opened an invoice attachment that looked genuine. A remote-control tool was installed, and for two weeks someone watched her screen and used her bank logins.

How WILDCARD handles it

Workstation Defender watches for malicious behaviour on business computers, including hidden remote-control tools.

  • A firm finds unfamiliar remote-access software on a laptop.
  • An office isolates a computer that is moving the cursor on its own.
  • A staff member reports a strange new program.

A question owners ask

What are the signs?

Slow behaviour, a webcam light that turns on by itself or unfamiliar remote-access software. Disconnect the computer and call IT.
