PPP

Point-to-Point Protocol

An older method for setting up a direct connection between two devices, such as a dial-up or home internet login.

Like a direct phone line between two people that begins with a short greeting.

How it works

  • It sets up the link and checks the login.
  • It was used for dial-up and early broadband.
  • Some internet providers still use a version of it.
  • Most office users never see it.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network covers the managed firewall and switches that sit behind your provider's modem.

  • A router logs into a provider with a username using it.
  • A technician reads the setting in an old modem.
  • A provider shows connection details.

A question owners ask

Why do I see it in my router?

Some providers need it for the login. Your provider supplies the details.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
