IPS

Intrusion Prevention System

A system that spots attack traffic on the network and blocks it automatically.

Like a hallway security gate that recognises a known troublemaker and does not open.

How it works

  • It sits in the path of traffic, so it can stop it as well as see it.
  • It uses lists of known attack patterns, updated often.
  • Settings that are too strict can block legitimate traffic.
  • Many firewalls include one.

How WILDCARD handles it

Network manages and monitors your UniFi firewall, which has intrusion prevention built in, with firewall response around the clock.

  • An office turns on the firewall's intrusion prevention and checks nothing legitimate is blocked.
  • A report shows a thousand blocked attempts against the office overnight.
  • A server is protected against a known flaw until it can be patched.

A question owners ask

Is it the same as antivirus?

No. It watches traffic between computers, while antivirus examines files on a computer.

Network
  • Firewall managed and monitored
  • Switches kept current
  • On-prem Active Directory auth
