HIDS

Host-based Intrusion Detection System

Software on a computer that watches for signs it has been attacked and raises an alert.

Like a smoke detector in one room: it watches only that room and sounds when something starts to burn.

How it works

  • It watches system files, logins and running programs.
  • It sees activity that a device on the network cannot, such as what happens inside a single computer.
  • It raises an alert and leaves the response to a person or other tool.
  • Most modern endpoint protection includes this function.

How WILDCARD handles it

Workstation Defender watches each protected computer around the clock.

  • An alert shows a program tried to change system settings.
  • A report lists files changed overnight.
  • An audit asks whether computers have monitoring installed.

A question owners ask

Does it stop an attack?

No. It tells you about one. The version that blocks is the prevention kind.

Something here sounds like your problem?

Every WILDCARD card exists to solve one named problem. Find yours.
