RFID

Radio Frequency Identifier

Tiny tags that can be read from a short distance, used for badges, stock and tolls.

Like a barcode that can be read without line of sight.

How it works

  • Tags contain a small chip and an antenna.
  • A reader powers and reads them.
  • Used in access badges and inventory.
  • Cheap badges can sometimes be copied.
  • An office uses badges for the front door.
  • A shop tags stock.
  • A gym tracks member entry.

A question owners ask

Can someone copy my badge?

Older, cheaper types can be copied, and newer ones are much harder.
