Multifunction Printer

An office machine that prints, scans, copies and sometimes faxes.

Like a Swiss army knife for paper: one device doing many jobs, with several ways for something to go wrong.

How it works

  • It connects to your network and often to email.
  • It stores copies of what it scanned or printed.
  • Default admin passwords are a frequent weakness.
  • Firmware updates matter, as they do on any computer.

What can go wrong (example scenario)

A dental office replaced its multifunction printer and gave the old one back to the dealer. Its internal drive held months of scanned patient forms.

How WILDCARD handles it

Print Management is the card for this and is still a concept, so it shows as coming soon.

  • An office changes the printer's default admin password.
  • A clinic wipes the drive before returning a leased machine.
  • A firm sets scan-to-email so scans go to a named mailbox.

A question owners ask

Can an office printer be hacked?

Yes. They run software, store documents and sit on your network, so treat them like computers.
