Information Systems Security Officer

The person named to look after the security of one specific system and make sure its rules are followed.

Like the safety officer for one workshop: knows its machines, checks the rules are followed and reports problems up.

How it works

  • Is named for a particular system, such as a payroll platform.
  • Keeps its security documents and access lists current.
  • Checks that fixes and reviews are done on time.
  • Appears in government and regulated work; smaller firms assign the duty to someone.

How WILDCARD handles it

Managed Compliance links the duty to the evidence an auditor wants, and vCIO can hold the role on a retainer.

  • A contract names a contact responsible for the security of a shared system.
  • An audit lists the person who approves access to the client portal.
  • A clinic assigns the duty to the practice manager.

A question owners ask

Who should hold this duty in a small firm?

Someone with authority over how the system is used, supported by an IT provider who handles the technical checks.
