ISO

International Standards Organization

The international group that publishes standards, including a well-known one for managing information security.

Like a shared measuring tape the whole world agrees on: when a business says it follows the standard, others know what to expect.

How it works

  • ISO 27001 is the usual one for information security.
  • Certification means an outside auditor checked the business.
  • Small businesses rarely need it, but larger clients sometimes ask.
  • Following the ideas can help without paying for a certificate.

How WILDCARD handles it

Mapping your setup against a standard is a vCIO review.

  • A supplier is asked by a large client whether it is certified.
  • A firm uses the standard as a checklist for its policies.
  • A tender asks for ISO 27001 and the firm explains its alternatives.

A question owners ask

Do I need to be certified?

Only if a customer or contract asks for it.

  • Moonlight, Sunlight, Starlight tiers
