Domain registrar

The company you pay each year to hold your domain name, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap.

Like the land titles office for your web address: it records that the name is yours.

How it works

  • Holds the registration and renewal date.
  • A login at the registrar controls the whole domain.
  • Protect it with MFA and a business email.
  • Turn on auto-renew and a lock against transfers.

How WILDCARD handles it

Domain Security covers registration and DNS, so the renewal date does not slip and the registrar login is protected.

  • A web designer registered the domain in their own name.
  • A renewal email goes to someone who left.
  • A hijack attempt tries to transfer the domain.

A question owners ask

How do I find my registrar? Look up your domain in a WHOIS tool or check old invoices. Then confirm the account is in your name.

Something here sounds like your problem?
