SPIM

Spam over Internet Messaging

Junk messages that arrive through chat apps and instant messaging instead of email.

Like junk flyers pushed through a chat window's letter slot instead of the mailbox at the front door.

How it works

  • Spam in chat apps often includes links that lead to scams.
  • Public chat and unknown contacts are the usual route.
  • Work chat tools can restrict who may message you.
  • Treat unexpected links in chat as you would in email.

How WILDCARD handles it

Email Security filters email. Chat settings are part of workspace administration under Cloud.

  • A staff member gets a message from a stranger in a work chat tool.
  • An owner receives a link in a text from an unknown contact.
  • A firm blocks outside contacts from messaging staff in its chat app.

A question owners ask

How is it different from spam?

The same idea over a different channel. Spam is junk email and this is junk chat.
