Infrastructure as Code

Setting up servers and networks by writing them as code files that a tool then builds, so setups can be repeated exactly.

Like a recipe card kept on file: anyone can cook the same dish from it, and changes are tracked on the card.

How it works

  • Files describe the machines and settings wanted.
  • A tool reads the files and builds them.
  • Changes are tracked like any other document.
  • Rebuilding after a failure takes minutes rather than days.

How WILDCARD handles it

Projects covers builds and migrations that benefit from repeatable setups.

  • A team rebuilds a test environment from files.
  • A change is reviewed before it reaches production.
  • A new office network is set up from a stored template.

A question owners ask

Does a small business need this?

Rarely directly. It matters when your software team or provider runs many servers.
